The beginnings of a new project. (Taken with instagram)
My dream of dreams is to have a room dedicated to knitting and yarn. And it would have a yarn winder and swift. And a sewing table complete with sewing machine.
Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon at my favorite Brooklyn yarn store, La Casita, frogging my entire sweater. The whole thing. Done wrong. A month’s worth of work, with no way of fixing it. The ladies in the store were wonderful, sympathetic, and a fabulous combination of snarky, lovely, and a tad inappropriate. I love it there.
But.
I learned some new techniques from the initial attempt, I learned what the word “frogging” means, I learned how to properly read through a sweater pattern and now know what to look for, I learned how to use one of those fancy wooden yarn winders (and now I really want my own winder: http://www.knitpicks.com/accessories/Knitting_Yarn_Ball_Winder__D80583.html), and I learned to wash and dry yarn that’s been used. I also - and perhaps most importantly - learned that these things happen even to the best knitters. I’m lookin’ at it like I’m paying my knitting dues.
And.
I’ve started over.

(Depressingly similar to the last photo I posted of this sweater…le sigh.)

My chapbook No Silence in the Fields is forthcoming from Blue Hour Press in 2012 in both digital and print (POD) formats. I’ve added a Chapbook tab to the site, where I’ll place updated information and, eventually, links to and more information about the chapbook itself.
From BHP’s website:…
Took a break from working on the sweater to knit these awesome gloves for my sister’s birthday. I think I might have to make myself some.
I found the Cappio Fingerless Gloves pattern on Ravelry.com (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cappio-fingerless-gloves).
I used my favorite bamboo 4.5mm (US 7) needles.
I used Cascade Yarns Eco Duo baby alpaca & merino wool yarn in Smoke. It’s the softest yarn in the world.
Embarking on my first sweater creation… Here we go! More documentation to come throughout the journey… (Taken with instagram)
